A word from founder Erika Vujnovich on the creation of Bodeeo:
Welcome and thanks for visiting Bodeeo! My name is Erika Vujnovich and I am the mother of two terrific boys ages 8 & 5. My oldest son is always amazing me with his questions and observations about money. Not only are his questions insightful, but they are actually quite funny.
I recall a time I gave him a dollar bill to which his response was “just a Washington?”
“Yes, just a Washington,” I told him. “Take it or leave it, kid.”
Funny, adorable, but also quite telling. From a young age, our children must understand the simplest of financial concepts and it is our responsibility to teach them. I therefore decided to take my interest in finance and combine it with my love of being a mom, to create Bodeeo; a financial education platform to help educate not only my son, but other parents and children.
I hear all too often from parents that they struggle to grasp anything having to do with finance. My goal is to offer knowledge without feeling overwhelmed. Once a parent understands the concepts, getting kids involved should be easy. Through the adventures of Bode and Leo, kids should be able to grasp these ideas while having fun on the financial playground.
As for my background, I am a graduate of Brown University and am a business journalist with more than 15 years of experience in the industry. I’ve worked as a writer and producer at some of the top financial networks including CNNfn, CNBC and Bloomberg. I’m also a member of the NY Financial Writers Association and was a recipient of the TJFR 30 under 30 financial journalism award.
When I went for my first job interview at CNN and was told that I would be writing financial news, I almost walked out of the meeting. At the time, I had no knowledge of and no interest in finance. But, here I am, many years later and still loving it. Parents and kids will love it too! It just takes a little encouragement to understand how exciting it can be.
I truly believe that it is never too early to start educating. After all, famed investor Warren Buffet made his first investment at age 11 and was running a small business by age 13. Let’s start prepping our future investors now! Teach them well and your child will graduate in no time from the Washingtons to the Benjamins.
